The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as well as state regulations, require detailed reports any time a special education evaluation is conducted. The law and regulations provide specific details about what needs to be included in each report.

Up until recently, most transition practitioners did not write reports for their transition assessments. Transition assessments were commonly viewed as "informal" assessments that fell outside the scope of the more formal assessments described in law and state regulations. However, several court cases have challenged this belief and have concluded that transition assessments ARE special education evaluations and must be held to the same legal requirements as any other special education evaluation. In some cases, a missing transition report has led to not only a procedural error, but also a denial of FAPE.

In the Transition Assessment Report training module, we will take a close look at the specific reporting requirements of IDEA and the matching state regulations. We will also review the court cases that qualify transition assessments under the same legal criteria as all other special education evaluations.

Additionally, registrants of this module will be given the ACES Transition Report Template which is a very comprehensive plug-and-play report template that will give transition practitioners a huge jump start in writing transition reports. The template incorporates all legal requirements as well as provides descriptions of over 15 commonly used transition assessments and/or data sources. 

Lastly, the Transition Assessment Report training module will walk registrants through a time-saving process to help them move quickly and efficiently through the transition assessment process, to report writing, and then to drafting the Individual Transition Plan.
